Effective performance support is created by a two-step approach:

    A thorough analysis through performance mapping of the end user's environment, processes and related functions
    A careful performance centered design process in which the conclusions of the performance mapping are transformed into supportive functionalities available for the end-user by a task oriented flow.

The effect of Performance Support is the relation and interaction of Knowledge 
& Skills versus Results & Faults. The optimum performance target is the shortest possible time and zero faults. Performance Support is an extension of the basic training.

The objective of Performance Centered Design is to enable the operator to obtain optimum support as close as possible to the event.
The instant support is preferred and the crew must be involved in order to optimize performance.

Most industries have worked with different forms of supportive and preventive means to enable the end-user to carry out complex operations satisfactorily, but few environments have been subject to so intense and profound analysis and design as the cockpit of a modern aircraft.

The aviation man-machine interface, procedures and checklists of a modern cockpit are the state of the art when it comes to performance optimization.
